While Trail Ridge Road won’t be open in April, when Yarn Fest takes place, you can still drive through much of the park and see some beautiful overlooks-and maybe even an elk cow with her calves! If you’re particularly adventurous, there are some great snowshoeing and cross country skiing trails. If you have time, Rocky Mountain National Park is an absolute must-see. The entrance to Colorado’s shining jewel of a National Park is just an hour from the Yarn Fest Loveland venue. Take a Drive or a Hike in Rocky Mountain National Park You could bring a picnic and your knitting or crochet, find a spot to park or an available picnic table, and enjoy the views! You could even extend your trip by just a few miles and hit the Morning Fresh Dairy Farm, where Noosa Yogurt is made, and get some tasty treats or even take a tour! Then head south on North County Road 23 to drive along the reservoir. The ideal route is to head up into the foothills north of Fort Collins. If that sounds like a long and chilly hike to take in April, I suggest you drive around the reservoir at the base of the rock. If you’re up for a moderately challenging hike, you can take the 6.4-mile loop up to the rock itself and, conditions permitting, scale the rock itself. Horsetooth Rock is the most prominent formation of the Northern Colorado foothills, visible from Loveland and especially from Fort Collins.
